Peridot

Peridot is a semi-precious stone ranging in color from yellow green to olive green to apple green. Peridot is also called Olivine by some mineralogists because of its olive green color.

Peridot photoPeridot is the August birthstone and is ideal to complement the popular shades of green in today’s fashion. Peridot is said to heal bruised egos, lessen anger, and prevent jealousy. The gemstone has a long history that extends to the time of the early Egyptians and ancient Romans.

Peridot blends fabulously with Amethyst for a look reminiscent of spring irises, complements the green to violet shades of Flourite, or contrast with Freshwater Pearls. I especially love the look of Peridot mixed with pale pink Swarovski pearls.

Peridot chips are an inexpensive way to add worth to your jewelry. Stones which have been formed into shaped beads or faceted are more expensive, but are a good springboard if you are moving to a higher value range of gemstones. Use good quality findings and accompanying beads to enhance the worth of your piece.
