Triple Double Ring Post Earrings

A complicated name, but it describes these cool post earrings perfectly! I've had a lot of requests for "less dangly" earrings lately, and these really fit the bill. Make up a pair in just minutes, and add embellishment using additional jump rings if you'd like.

Level: Beginner/Intermediate

Materials
20-22g niobium, sterling, copper or gold-filled wire
Stepped or round nosed pliers
Nylon jawed pliers
Flush cutters
Fine file or bur
Optional: Hammer and block or anvil

You can practice first using copper or craft wire, but I don't suggest using craft wire for the actual earrings (base metal may irritate piercing). I work directly off my spool of wire to eliminate waste. For the wire size, I use 20g for my own earrings, but for more sensitive ears, 22g works well.

Step 1

Make a loop at the end of the wire using the middle section of a stepped pliers (or middle of a round-nosed pliers). Using the nylon jawed pliers, make a tight, flat spiral around the loop. Continue to spiral until you have gone around the center loop 2 3/4 times. Measure 1" from the end of the spiral, and cut wire from spool using flush cutters.

Step 2

Optional: Hammer spiral lightly to strengthen and create a textured look.

Step 3

Using a sharp edge or flat-nosed pliers, make a 90 degree bend in the wire at the end of the spiral. Make another 90 degree bend approximately 1/4" from the first bend. If your earlobes are really thick or thin, adjust the width between the bends — this will keep the spiral tight on your earlobe.

Step 4

Make 3 round jump rings using the middle section of the stepped pliers. Open each ring and attach to the earring through the open loop in the center of the spiral.

Step 5

File off rough edges of earring post using bur or file.

Repeat for second earring.
