UR Charmed Necklace

The pendant made in this project can be threaded on a leather lace, sterling chain, or ribbon. Use scrap wire to create interesting charms to hang on it, or hang ready-made sterling or pewter charms representing a theme. Jump rings can be used to easily change out charms as you wish.

Level: Easy

Materials

Sterling silver 16g wire

Cut one piece of sterling silver wire 7″ long. Use a Sharpie marker to mark the wire 2 1/4″ from each end. Use the smallest end of a step pliers or the middle of a round nosed pliers to make a large loop at one end. Use a nylon jawed flat nosed pliers to continue to make a tight spiral until you reach the mark. At the other end of the wire, make another spiral at the other end — be sure it is turned in the same direction as the first spiral (they should both be on the same side of the wire.)

Mark the center of the open wire between the spirals. Use a 2″ dowel to wrap the open wire into a U shape, with the spirals turning toward the outside of the U. Attach two large jump rings to the center of each spiral to hang the pendant from a necklace.

Optional: Oxidize the pendant using Liver of Sulfur or hard boiled egg method. (Pendant shown is not oxidized.)

Hang premade charms from U pendant or make your own charms using scrap silver wire.
