Button My Lip Cocktail Ring
Big, gaudy rings are a great fashion accent, and so easy to make using a little wire and a flashy shank button.
Level: Beginner
Materials
16-18g round or half round wire
Large button with large hole shank fastener
Wire cutter
Ring mandrel
Jewelry file
Determine the size of ring you’ll be making. Cut a length of wire at approximately 12 inches long.
Wrap the wire around the ring mandrel for the size ring you are making. Be sure the ends are even and the ring shank is centered. Wrap around a second time, allowing the ends to meet.
Thread button through both pieces of wire (wire should be side-by-side in the button shank if possible, if not, stack.)
Twist both pieces of wire around the outside of the button shank one full revolution. Remove the ring from the ring mandrel.
Being careful not to distort the ring shank, wrap each end around the ring shank 2-3 times to hold the wire in place and keep the ring shank stable.
Cut excess wire, and file any rough or sharp edges using the jewelry file.
