When I was a child and bored one summer, my brother and I were challenged
by our parents to tie a cherry stem into a knot using only our tongues and
teeth. I worked at it all summer, and finally, after frustrating weeks of
attempts, was able to tie the knot. I always wondered if Mom and Dad were
just trying to keep us from getting bored or if they were just trying to
keep us from eating cherries so quickly!

Anyhow…hubby came home with a HUGE box of Bing cherries the other day,
and I’ve been enjoying them for between meal snacks. And for breakfast.
And lunch. And dinner. :-) For some reason, after eating a couple this
afternoon, I started wondering if the seeds could be cleaned up (I’m
thinking lots of bleach), dried, and then drilled to form beads. They are
perfect bead shapes and hard little things! I’m also wondering if they
could be carved somehow…

There’s a little bit of an eww factor in using cherry pits for beads, but I
think it might be an interesting experiment. Probably the oddest thing I’ve
thought of using for beads lately, but it may be worth a try.
