The great debate on silver prices…
Well, here in the States, gas prices go up and up and up, and it is constantly a discussion on “how has the price of gas changed the way you drive”. People take less vacations away from home, buy smaller/more efficient cars, do less “running around”. We change our behavior to reflect the economy.
And in the jewelry business, the rising cost of silver and gold have prompted me to wonder if it’s changing our behavior in creating jewelry as well. Specifically:
Do you use LESS silver in your work because the cost has become prohibitive to what you can spend?
Do you use MORE base metals in place of silver to keep costs down?
Do you pass along the increased cost of metals to your clients? Have you heard any negative comments about it? (People KNOW that gas is more expensive, but are they aware of the ever-changing price of silver?)
For daily updates on the price of silver, you can check Thunderbird Supply’s “spot price” (upper left corner of their site) or google “current silver pricing”
